PULSE is designed for outstanding international Master’s and doctoral candidates in Public Health, Epidemiology, AI and Data Science. We seek talents with a strong academic profile and clear motivation. Admission is selective and does not replace regular admission procedures or automatically include a full scholarship.
PULSE is looking for candidates with excellent academic performance, strong learning and research abilities, and convincing motivation for the next stage of their academic development. Depending on the applicant’s career stage, the assessment may consider not only grades but also relevant research or professional experience, academic work, methodological skills, and development potential.
Applicants must also meet the formal and academic admission requirements of the intended Master’s or Ph.D. programme. Selection for PULSE cannot replace or lower these requirements.
Previous studies, research interests, or practical experience should demonstrate a clear connection to Public Health, Epidemiology, AI, Data Science, or data-driven health sciences. Interdisciplinary profiles from related health, natural, life, social, economic, or methodological sciences are also welcome, provided that a clear connection to PULSE topics can be demonstrated.
Of particular relevance are an interest in quantitative methods, statistics, data analysis, evidence-based decision-making, or digital applications in healthcare, as well as a willingness to further develop existing skills in a targeted manner.

The programmes have different academic, language, and formal admission requirements. Prospective applicants should therefore determine at an early stage which programme best matches their previous degree and individual goals. The PULSE team and academic mentors provide guidance in this process; however, only the current admission requirements of the selected programme are binding.

PULSE thrives on the active involvement of its talents. Participants are expected to be open to mentoring and feedback, reliably participate in agreed onboarding and qualification activities, and actively engage with the PULSE cohort and the academic environment at LMU.
This includes, in particular, participation in academic formats such as the bootcamp, refresher courses, or Data-thons, at least one semester-long German language course, and the use of networking and career development opportunities. Initiative, teamwork, and a willingness to share experiences with other talents are important components of the programme.
Places and individual funded activities are limited. There is no entitlement to admission or to any particular form of funding.
PULSE combines individual guidance with academic, social, and career development support. Depending on career stage and individual needs, this may include academic mentoring, support during the application and Pre-Arrival process, a four-week stay in Munich, welcome and onboarding activities, German language courses, AI and Data Science formats, networking budgets, career mentoring, and contact with potential employers.
Not every activity is automatically available to every candidate in the same form. Allocation depends on the selection process, individual needs, career stage, and available project funding. PULSE is not a general monthly scholarship for living expenses.
Admission to PULSE does not replace regular admission to the respective master's or doctoral program.
Program-funded recruiting and pre-arrival initiatives are awarded based on quality, in a structured manner, and according to professional fit.
